Mend Low Level Leaks

Low level toilet leaks from soil pipe?

Hello. The soil pipe drips (not the flush pipe) when the flush is pulled. The outlet hole is vertical at the back of the toilet pan. Do we need a replacement seal? We would appreciate any tips on fitting also. Many thanks

Some of the better fittings have a rubber membrane seal that is removable - allowing you to cut the pan connector to length. Others have it fixed in place which means the connector isn't adjustable. Hope it works out well!

Thanks John. That's just what we needed to know - no silicone bodges etc, just a decent connector. I had seen similar comments on the web, but even b & q have flexible sealant in the plumbing isle, so it can be quite confusing for layfolk such as us! Cheers.

Thats exactly what you do need - you'd be wasting your time trying to seal the thing up with silicone. New pan connectors are available from B&Q, Wickes, Plunb Center etc and they aren't expensive. Fitting one though may be awkward, and usually involves moving the complete loo away from the wall so you can get access - it really depends on your individual circumstances. The new pan connectors simply push into the soil pipe, and likewise on the back of the loo.
