mp3 player not showing up as laptop drive?

I bought an rca opal mp3 player. I have had a lot of problems with it. The newest problem is it is not being recognized by my laptop. I plug it into the usb drive, i can hear and see it trying to connect but nothing! As it is I cannot download anything on it.
