need to swop a rad for a new one but on right side it as a thermostat how d?

can stop the water out of one side but other as a thermostat

As peccavi says you need to isolate both end if you have a stat at one end it can be removed by unscrewing which will give you access to valve underneath turn valve anticlockwise till tight

You need to fully close off BOTH radiator valves - put down some protection like a plastic sheet and old towels and use something like a paint roller tray to catch the water. Use a jug and bucket to empty the paint tray. Undo the unions onto the radiator and open the bleed valve at the top for faster draining. When empty, close the bleed valve. Black sludge may come out at the end, it's normal. Lift off wall and carry away upside down to prevent drips on floor.
