Steam cleaner making a growling noise?

I have a Polti vaporetto l'ecoaspira 715. When I use the steamer the machine makes a growling noise. I contacted the service centre and was reassured that the noise is the pump getting more water. Is this the case? does the pump start working as soon as one uses the steam?\r\n
