how can i fix my fridge freezer?

If the problem is simple however somtimes you can do more damaged than you think has we nearly found out to our cost especially when buying all these do it yourself kits over the net. We nearly damaged the evaporator on our american fridge freezer after trying repairing it ourselves only because we got fed up of all the different companies who couldnt fix it. But thank our lucky stars we got hold of a guy whos an approved engineer from a company agsrefrigeration who was servicing the fridge at my place of work he came out and repaired the evaporator and rectified the fault on our fridge over a year now still working as good as new they operate in the london and surrey area give them a call. www,agsrefrigeration.co.uk.

I have an FF92S and have had several faults which all seem to be common. I have done all the repairs myself.

1) Freezer is cold but fridge warm. Replaced the thermistor which is located in the freezer behind the plastic panel. Easy to fit, often the connectors get corroded so a little silicone grease prevents this.
2) Fridge cold but freezer warm. Again i replaced the thermistor for the freezer the same way.
3) Freezer builds up ice. Replaced the defrost heater.

I have owned my Hotpoint Mistral FF92S for almost 8years now and it's still alive and well after doing the repairs.

We have the same fridge freezer, and the same th8ing happened to ours, the engineer came out and took the freezer draws out, and tookm the back off behind the draws it was covered in ice so it stops the fan working because it is the fan that takes the cold air from the freezer up to the fridge, all he did was use my hairdryer and melt all the ice, then plugged the ff back in and it started working again, so every time the fridge gaets warm we just do this ourselves.

If your defrost heater is faulty, the buildup of ice on the
freezer evaporator coil will block cold air flow to your fridge section.
It could also be a faulty thermostat that controls the amount of cold air flow from freezer section to fridge section.

Just a note on the fridge not getting cold, is it in a cold area, i,e: the surrounding area is colder than the storage temp of the fridge, in which case it will switch off early, this used to be one problem with older cappillary type thermostats.

If the compressor is running all the time it may be short of refrigerant, look to the rear, look for type of refrigerant, if it is a propane (Klea**) you may have a problem geting it serviced, if it has a HCFC R132a should be no problem.

If it says R12, you will require the council to collect it has it is unservicable, (CFC R12 is now a banned substance)

You have one of two problems either short of refrigerant or the sensor is cutting out early in which case you should notice the compressor switch off, in the former case you will require a qualified refrigeration engineer, (ask to see his 2078 certificate)
