I have just spoken to the Nissan dealer who suggests the following:
If the radio is telling you to wait one hour, you will need to turn the ignition key to the first position, ignition light comes on but car doesn't try to start, and then leave it for one hour before you re-input the code. Obviously the car will be insecure during this process.
