Ford Fiesta 1998 1.3 Endura engine will not start?

My wifes car has suddenly developed this problem.
It has now happened on 4 occassions.
The car drives fine when working, however with no warning it will not start, the electrics seem fine as the engine turns over but will not fire up.
It appears to be fuel related, maybe flooded ? It is a fuel injected engine
My wife is now afraid to use car because of the risk of being stranded.
Can anyone help with possible / probable causes and solutions.
