dyson smells of burning when switched on?

Check the drive belt first. If ok then suspect the motor, they do smell when they are worn out. You can actually get a new motor and complete machine overhaul with new parts where needed and 12 months guarantee from Dyson service dept for around £75, a good deal and better (cheaper) than buying a new machine
