Mend Vauxhall Vectra 1.6i Engine Light 2

vectra engine light 2?

See if you so called experts can sort this one out.
Vecra 1.6i 2001,car runs o.k.then starts to missfire,engine light on,switch engine off and coast for 5secs,turn back on car runs lovely,then sometimes car missfires no light on,but comes on when you press throttle,foot off throttle light goes out.when pulling away in 1st & 2nd floor the throttle,coughs & splutters a bit,then goes like hell.
When spluttering in 4th or 5th i change down floor it & after a cough its away like hell again.
Please help im desperate.

Assuming you have ruled out bad sparkplugs/leads and tried some injection cleaner, then Mass airflow sensor or throttle position sensor, but if the "Eng" light has been on a fault code will be logged in the engine ecu's memory, so get the fault code's read before replacing components, it will work out cheaper!! £30ish at most independant garages and tyre & exhaust places

It sounds like you have an air mass meter fault but naturally there are other things that could cause this....anyway, if you can find a garage with diagnostic equipment, the fault will be stored as a 4 digit code. With my gear I can continue the scan when driving along, which is well convenient. You'll find this much better than randomly replacing parts!
