THIS INVOLVES QUITE A LOT WORK -BUT IT CAN BE DONE WITHOUT REMOVING THE ENGINE, BUT IT DEPENDS ON YOUR MECHANICAL SKILLS, I HAVE JUST DONE ONE AND FOUND IT QUITE TRICKY AND I HAVE BEEN A MECHANIC FOR 40 YEARS OR MORE- THE GEARBOX WILL NOT COME OUT BUT SLIDES AWAY FROM THE ENGINE FAR ENOUGH TO GET TO REMOVE THE CLUTCH, BUT A LOT OF DISCONNECTING OF COMPONENTS FIRST IE. EXHAUST ,BATTERY AND CARRIER,ENGINE MOUNTS ,ONE AT THE REAR BY EXHAUST DOWN PIPE.AND ONE UNDER BATTERY CARRIER BY N/S FRONT WING, PLUS ALL OTHER PIPES/CABLES ,ETC THAT MAY GET DAMAGED WHEN JACKING UP AND TAKING THE WEIGHT OF THE ENGINE AND G/BOX PRIOR TO REMOVAL,AS I SAID IT IS QUITE A JOB , MY ADVICE IS IF YOU INTEND TO DO IT GET A HAYNES MANUAL AND FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE OF REMOVAL OF G/BOX. IT GIVES YOU TWO ALTERNATIVES ONE REMOVE ENGINE AND G/BOX / OR TWO REMOVE GEARBOX IN SITU BUT YOU CANNOT ACTUALLY REMOVE THE G/BOX, ONLY PULL IT AWAY ENOUGH TO GET AT THE PRESSURE /AND CENTRE PLATE FRONT N/S WHEEL ALSO HAS TO BE REMOVED FOR THIS OPERATION I CAN NOT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO ALWAYS HAVE SAFETYFIRST IN YOUR MIND ,AS THE CAR WILL BE UP ON STANDS HOLDING THE WHOLE CAR IN THE AIR AND YOU AT SOMETIME WILL BE UNDERNEATH IT,UNLESS YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE A LIFT AVAILABLE I HOPE THIS HELPS ,GOOD LUCK AND BE CAREFUL REGARDS JIM
