Mend Countax Mower Replaced Battery

How can I get my countax ride on mower's engine to kick in?

I have an old countax ride on mower that has been stored for past 18months. Just replaced battery, engine is turning over but not kicking in - any ideas before having to call in mechanic?

Drain all old fuel (including carb bowl), and re-fuel. If still no-go check for spark.
