Mend Polti 5200R Steam Iron Burning

Polti 5200R steam problem?

Steam is not coming out through the holes in the bottom of the iron plate. Instead I have steam coming out between the handle and the iron plate and it is burning my hands! The machine is very old, is this the end of this great ironing machine? Can anyone assist.
