Jumbled Readings?

I have an Alpine 9821 CD car stereo AM/FM receiver. The readings for the stations, time and everything else is jumbled and unreadable. Other than that the unit works fine. I have cleaned the contact points on the detachable head and the unit. I have pressed the reset button also, but to no avail. I was just wondering what else would be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreceiated. Thanks.
