why is the drum making a serious noise on the final fast spin

If it's a high pitched whine, it maybe the drum bearing. It's whining is happening all the time but it's only more noticable to you during the fast turning of the spin.
Complex and costly repair by engineer only option, if indeed the bearing has gone.
