How can I fix my light in the Kitchen?

Hello! I just came one evening into my kitchen and the light was not working. I checked if the rest of the things like sockets, washing machine and freezer had power and everything was fine. I have changed the light swichter and I thought by changing this it would work again. Nothing happened I still without kitchen light. So I decided to buy a new lamp which i tried to install. When i was removing the old lamp only 3 cables came out of the celing: 2 black and 1 red. One in green was connected with a screw to the lamp only and the other cable (green with yellow) which was connected was randomly to screwed to the lamp too. I connected the cables like they were connected to the previous lamp but it still not work and I don't know what could be the problem. I would really appreciated any thoughts or ideas to fix this.
Thanks

In the UK and probably in your country too the Power Circuits have their own fuse - sometimes one for upstairs power and one for downstairs - similarly the Lighting Circuit(s). Each type of circuit has a different fuse rating - larger Amp rating for Power & smaller for Lights.

If the fuse is pulled out or blown that circuit will no longer have power. If other circuits are working then they are not connected to the removed/blown fuse.

Your kitchen light is probably not connected to the power socket circuit - it certainly shouldn't be.

Your supplementary question reinforces my opinion that you need an electrician.

Continuing luck and safety to you...

Hi Peccavi!

I have taken it out and the fuse is also connect to my sockets so if the fuse were blown how would i have energy in the kitchen through the sockets?? I don't understand.

Check the consumer unit (fuse board) for a tripped breaker of a blown fuse.

If that's all OK then call an electrician - your question strongly suggests a certain lack of familiarity with things electrical which could be dangerous...

Lord Finchley tried to mend the electric light
