is my ps2 fixable?

When I put a game, CD or DVD in it, it says "The disc could not be read". is something wrong with my playstion 2 and can it be fixed?

your disc drive laser has worn out, you can purchase a new one on auction sites or possibly ask a local game store to replace it for you.
