USB ports not working on my laptop!!!?

I currently have a laptop that as 5 usb ports I am trying to use an internet dongle on this laptop...although the usb port picks up the dongle it wont install on to the laptop or if it does it just says no deivce can anyone help the dongle works fine on my other laptop!!!!!
