Mend Briggs & Stratton SP470 Lawnmower

Lawnmower wont start?

Briggs and Stratton SP470 engine.
When pulling the re-coil cord, the mechanism it works keeps on locking whether I pull gently or hard. The mower has been working fine but all of a sudden this happens. Ahat could be the fault?
also, I have also just purchased a new recoil cord, what is the best way to replace it.
