corsa temp overheating help HELP?

my corsa v-reg 1.0l envoy 1999 is over heating the temp gauge will go from min to max in 5min if im stuck in traffic im not sure if its a fan thats away as if i start to drive it will go down again. however once it gets so hot no amount of driving will help. im a bit of a virgine when it comes to cars so please HELP.

Vauxhall Vauxhall Envoy Vehicles, Cars Temp Help Heating

You'll blow the head gasket if you're not careful. Get the fan thermoswitch checked out, and if that's working check the fan itself. Could be either.
