Mend Ford Transit Van Problems Diesel

i have a transit van with selector problems?

i have a 51 plate turbo diesel van it is grating from the selector, and won't go up or down. if i get it up it will only go in first and second if i get it in the middle it will only get third and fourth.is there a quick and easy fix or is it nackered.

I have an 02 plate transit which had same problem i suspect its a retaining clip on the selector cable there is a modified clip available and had this fitted since then have had no further problems
