Mend AEG 76639 Washing Machine Water Cycle

AEG 76639 washing machine pump?

The washing machine never seems to competely empty of water so is stuck in an endless "pump out" cycle. I have checked the filter - all clear. I have thrown a bucket of cold water in and pumped that out - so teh pump itself seems ok.
Could it be a water level detector has failed? Any ideas?

take the back panel off and look inside.is there water in the base operating a float switch which keeps the pump running?.
