I HAVE OLD LAPTOP FRM FRIEND IT HAS THE THE WIRLESS CARD IT DOES NOT LIGHT ?

The card in the laptop may need switching on. It could be a switch or a succession of keystrokes.

Eric,

presumably you have a wireless router connected to the 'phone line?

You need to establish a network connection between your wireless enabled laptop and the router...

Use Start / Settings / Control Panel to navigate to
Network and Internet Connections - select Network Connections.

You should see an icon for Wireless Network Connection.
Right Click on it and select View Available Wireless Networks (I can see my own and three of my neighbour's) - Connect to the one in your house...
