Baffled by Scantronic 9448+?

When alarm is not set it makes a kind of "bee bah" noise if an outside door is opened, I believe this is normal, but, the alarm has started to "bee bah" when someone operates a light switch, turns off the hi-fi etc. Anyone any ideas?

Just a thought...

... I have also come across this type of fault when a house has a bad earth connection, albeit it's very rare these days. If no joy with alarm route, see if other electrical devices are displaying symptoms as you may have a fault on your mains wiring. If this is the case call an electrician.

If the alarm system always makes a noise when you open an external door, you may have: -

1). 'Chime ' enabled on your alarm system. This option is enabled/disabled '7' + 'Enter' + 'User Code'.

2). Bi in 'Walk Test' mode: This is enabled by pressing '5' + 'Enter' + 'User Code', and exited by entering your 'User Code'.

I would result to John's instruct is all else fails. Instaead if the sound is occuring at a frequent interval (i.e every 3 mins) and you have battery operated smoke, Carbon Monoxide detectors, cordless telephone handset etc... take the batteries out of these devices for 10 mins and see if the fault reoccurs, if it does replace the batteries in each device one by one until the fault comes back. When it does, replace the battery in that device. I have attended many call outs with this type of report only to find flat batteries in aforementioned detectors + Mobile phone message warnings and children's books etc... worth checking before you call an alarm engineer as its a very expensive error to make. Hope this helps...

I would agree with J, it isn't a normal sound for that panel. I had a similar call from a customer who insisted his panel was making a noise only to find it was a carbon monoxide detector to blame. I suggest you remove both the mains power & battery power to the panel ( your outside sounder will then go because it has its own battery). If the sound continues it's not the panel.
