The hatchback door on my Ford Fiesta has become very heavy?
My 2003 Ford Fiesta has suddenly become extremely heavy to lift and then will not stay open by itself (without being held up by me). When lowering I have to hold it tightly otherwise it falls with great force. I know nothing of these things but is it some sort of hydraulic problem in the two supports?
Any advice would be very welcome. (I certainly hope it's not an expensive problem as I am a recovering student!) Thank you.
Try the scrapyards, much cheaper and if you smile and ask nicely they'll fit them for a fiver!!

Thank you John for the information. I just hope this isn't an expensive job, I'll make enquiries at a workshop. My MOT is due in a few weeks, would this fault fail the MOT? Thanks again.

The self supporting gas struts have failed on your tailgate - they can't be repaired, only replaced.
