Mend Flymo Power Lawnmower

No power to Flymo lawnmower?

Attempting to switch on my Flymo Lawnmower there was no response. Electrical points were plugged in so could there be another reason for power 'failure'?

Just tried the WD spray on to the button switch,( once opened up) and instant repair. thanks for the tip Rob Ferguson.

Try WD40 on push button once switch casing is taken off. It worked for me and I'm no electrician/mechanic or anything practical.

The usual fault with Flymo is the motor stator coil windings breaking at the joint to the terminals. Pretty poor engineering! Can sometimes be repaired but tricky.

Yeh, I've just had the same thing happen to me as well, I was half way through cutting the grass in the back garden when I stopped to empty the grass box (vision compact 350), when I went to restart, the motor fired up for a second and then cut out, the fuse in the plug is fine, (and the socket its plugged into), the power lead hasn't been caught, I've had the cover off the motor and there's no smell of burning and the brushes look OK. When I opened up the switch box on the handle I did notice a slight smell of burnt out circuitry, as the switch itself seems to be OK, I'm guessing its going to be the capacitor attatched to the switch which has gone (it's a little rectangular yellow block with 2 solid wires coming from it to the switch on mine). The capacitor is availabe online for £2.99 and is most likely the cause of the problem, a lot cheaper than a new lawnmower! This may not be the same problem for everyone, but the switch and the capacitor are the cheapest bits in the mower at £2.99 each, the motor will cost £40 - £45 and would be the next thing to try.

This has just happened to me too, It simply cut out and I've only used it about a dozen times, It is very frustrating when the grass is growing so quickly in springtime!
In my experience these cheaper mowers only seem to be built for one or two seasons.

Circuit to power socket may have tripped breaker
Socket itself may be defective
Fuse in plug (if you have a fused plug) may be blown
Conductor in plug may have worked loose
Power cord may have severed conductor (take care when checking)
Connector at lawnmower end may be defective
Power switch on mower may be defective
Internal wiring in mower may be defective (probably not though)
Motor and or brushes may be defective.

Check the easiest things first...

Try not to be too frustrated - in the overall scheme of things a non-working lawnmower hardly counts - it's just part of everyday life - stay cool.
