Dripping noise - boiler flue?

I can hear a dripping noise in my bedroom. I think it is from an internal pipe, and the boiler flue pipe in the false ceiling above is my guess.

How can I work out if it is that causing the noise?
How can I get to it to fix it (minimising damage to the false ceiling?)
Is it dangerous if it is coming from the boiler - i.e. would there be nasty gases as well as water?
Is this a DIY job?

Did reply to this previously - but my answer seemsto have disappeared!

In the end, I called British Gas to service the boiler. They found no evidence of a problem. They advised me to monitor the ceiling for any evidence of a stain which might indicate leakage from the flue. Also installed a carbon monoxide detector to put my mind at rest. Still don't know what the dripping noise is, but the engineer suggested maybe it was actually just the sound of pipes expanding and contracting. Am just monitoring now for any evidence of staining or damp....if none appears I will try not to worry about the "drip"!

I can't see how the boiler flue pipe can be dripping water - unless the boiler is up there as well! I think you need to get up into the loft, and when all is quiet, try to isolate where the noise is coming from, then post back. Any water tanks up there?
