Wiring a new bathroom light fitting?

I would have thought this would be quite simple. Famous last words! Ok so here's the problem, the light fitting I have brought is relatively simply to wire and connect and I don't have a problem with that. However it doesn't seem to make any accommodation for the earth wire. The instructions state that under no circumstances should the fiiting or any part of it be attached to the earth wire. So the question is what do you do with the earth wire hanging out the ceiling. Do you just shove it back in the roof. If any one has an idea please could you let me know.
