First get the tools together: Philips screwdriver, torch, bradawl (or something with a sharp metal point), small mirror, set of small box spanners. SWITCH OFF and UNPLUG the electrical supply. Everything you do now is at YOUR OWN RISK and may have warranty implications. You have been told and warned.
Take off the front kitchen panel (the kitchen units facia). Then unscreww the 2 philips screws holding the metal facing plate at the bottom of the machine. This now gives you access to the inside of the underside of the machine. Locate the heating element on the left. It is the first item which you can locate on the left. You have to remove the white and brown power leads (after unplugging the machine from the mains). Remember the which coloured lead is to the left and which to the right spade (for refitting later). You might need a torch to see what you are doing now. To release the lead you need a pointed bradawl (or similar) to push in the spring on the connector (you will need a torch and look very closely to see where the spring is in the push on electrical connector. Once the connector is off the spade you then need to remove the rubber gaiter - it pulls off if you wiggle it. Now you can see the nut between the two electical posts that needs to be undone. You will need a long box spanner to undo the nut as an ordinary spanner will not fit between the electrical connectors. Now it is just a case of removing the element and putting the replacement in. Remember to tighten it well (but not overtighten) as it needs to be waterproof. Personally I put a little plumbers mait on to seal it.
