My Ford 6006e head unit is playing up !! Can anyone suggest a remidy?

My Ford Mondeo 6006e headunit has been playing up recently!

CD2 just made a scratchy whirring noise - unless you changed it to a different CD the machine just showed up CD ERROR and reverted to radio again.

Yesterday I was able to ejected a CD, however now it will not load or eject or play CDs!!!

Also tonight when parking the car I noticed that the Display on the radio remained lit even after everything was turned off!! Upon close examination 3/4 of an hr later I noticed a faint whirring noise comming from within the radio. Turning it on and off didn't fix the problem - the display still lit up when turned off!

After pressing buttons madly, (load and eject) the radios display finally closed down!!!

Can anyone suggest a fix for all my radios ailments??

I am happy to remove and delve - I know these these things can be extremely costly repair and replace!!
