TOMSON DT16300 digital tv recorder fan?

Hi, I have had this recorder for approx 5mths it is not in a cabinet standing on top of shelf next to TV not near a heater, the fan runs all the time even in standby, it is very annoying especially at night. I have heard it is a common fault , does anyone know if it's true?

I'm quoting from the 'User Manual'.
Fault- There is a humming noise in the DTR.
Cause/Remedy-This is the noise from the fan and the hard disk and is normal. It will not generally be noticeable and is unavoidable.

But you're right, it 'is' noticeable!
