Mend Ford Mondeo Rear Passenger Side

Ford Mondeo - banging noise from rear passenger side?

Hi,

When I drive my 2004 Ford Mondeo alone, this noise is not that much. But when I have my car full with passengers (wife & two kids), we hear banging noise from rear passenger side whenever the rear passenger side wheel goes through a little rough patch on the road. Could this be silencer banging the car body? I took my car twice to the local Tyresales, but they are not able to hear the noise as the guys go for a test drive alone. I guess the noise doesn't come when the car is running light on the road.

The noise started coming after the same Tyresales changed brake pads & discs.

The noise is driving us crazy. Any help?

Regards,

Kaushal

I have the same problem . I believe I've correctly diagnosed it as the brake cable moving and causing the rattling noise . If you feel the cable at the opposite side of the car it will have no movement whereas at the rear passenger side it will be very loose .

I got it checked at a couple of garages. Wheel bearings are fine. No issues with anti role bar links or subframe bushes.

At a couple of other forums, I had read that loose hand break cable might cause this. So, out of curiosity sake I put paper packaging along the handbrake cable near passenger side rear wheel, and the noise was gone. Obviously the paper packaging didn't last long, so the noise is back again. I will have to find something permanent to fix this.

Is this sound heard as soon as you start your journey or is it after driving a few Kilometers ? Is this sound heard when you apply breaks ?

There are 2 issues. One is either you have some problems with your wheel bearings or if your brakes are full of dust. Use the Jack, lift the rear wheel and shake it. If it shakes, no doubt your wheel bearings are out dated. Meet a Ford Expert nearby as soon as possible
