I did some ironing &everything was fine then when I went back later I switched it on and it made a bang then the steam started coming out from the bottom of the generator and now it won't stop .Just keeps coming out a brass valve under machine.

Constant steam flowing issues:

I have a Tefal GV8150 bought from Australia although I am now based in the UK, approx 8 years old...been working like a dream until today. Best thing I've bought!

Issue: blowing out constant steam non stop, steam button not engaging as a result. No error lights, but the iron did get hot.

Been working on this for last 3 hours - rinsing the anti-calc tank - got a few bits of brown flakes out (have been cleaning this periodically anyway). I used vinegar, lemon juice in the both anti-calc tank and water reservoir. Didn't help much. Problem persisted with constant steam coming out.

Finally used a descaler (Brand was by Astonish) from the Pound Shop in the water tank. Let this work through for about 45 mins, after which a brown toffee like gunk spewed out from the iron plate holes....never seen anything like it and very random! Almost like a molten metal. Not sure what it is. Steam stopped coming out so thought result! worked fine then 20 mins later had the same problem i.e. constant steam coming out from plate again. After putting more descaler in the water tank and letting it work through, the constant steam stopped. The iron functions as normal again after some more gunk came out from the holes in the plate. Note the gunk is very messy and will stick to everything...you may need a scraper to get it off...and it make a mess of teh iron plate (which will need to thorough clean)

I wouldn't bother with vinegar...get a good quality descaler. I called Tefal who basically advised after 4 years, it was unlikely part were available. What a set of con artists!

I have just cleaned my Tefal pro and now it seems to be stuck on steam the steam is constant and the steam light is orange is there some sort of reset or is it caput?

My tefal express generator iron has went off with a bang ! Have just cleaned it as I usually do with the tube that came with it .it is 7 years old. When I started it again I pressed restart and continued to iron when the light was ready .steam seemed to ebb away quickly and then a few minutes later there was a bang in below boiler .I assume she wasnt taking water into boiler .is this a safety device or is she scrap ! .have no problems with limescale at all .never had to descale kettle , washing machine or any appliance

it appears to be leaking the water instead of steaming could it need cleaning allthough it is supposed to be automatic clean.have I moved the switch which is on eco but the red light has stopped coming on with the green one please help as i do a lot of ironing

The soleplate will need replacing and is quite common. This is a very quick repair and will not cost very much.

No steam when button pressed or continuous uncontrollable steam is usually symptomatic of the steam control valve having jammed (usually scaled up). I cured mine by unscrewing the (brass) valve assembly from the boler, removing the (green plastic) solenoid unit from the valve then soaking the brass valve unit in descaling fluid for a couple of hours. Afterwards, I rinsed off valve, reattached solenoid and screwed valve back into boiler unit. The cleaned valve now works perfectly. Replacement valve assembly also available from various spare part sites on the internet.

My Teffal pro express steam iron now wont stop steaming when it is switched on. Seems as if trigger switch stuck or broken. Steams so bad cant see lol and obviously water tank empties in minutes. Can it be repaired? I live in Derby.

My tefal pro express turbo which was purchased in Aug 2012 has started leaking water through the sole plate, I've noticed that it is also taking much much longer to heat up when first switching on!
I phoned the tefal helpline, they want £64 to fix it!

Does anyone have any cheaper ideas please?

Teal pro express. Iron heating. Thermostat working. Orange light flashes once when switching on. Green light flashes until reservoir heated then stays on. All seems ok but no steam and hose is also cold. Water in reservoir is hot. Motor like sound when initially heating but no steam on pressing button. Can you advise please.

My Tefal generator iron had to be repaired after only 2 months as the iron would not heat up and water just poured from the soleplate. Tefal collected it and repaired it, but would not replace it. Now 12 months later it has popped and sparks came from underneath it. Now it is just dead. Any suggestions. Disappointed with Tefal after sales service and looking for more reliable generator iron, can you recommend a different manufacturer.

I poured cillet bang (grime & lime) inside the bottom chamber, I then left it for about an hour, I then rinsed the chamber out, now works fine.

I have similar problems. Just get continuous steam. Cleaned it all out inside. Gave it a good shake. Loads of tiny bits of limescale came out. Switched it back on. Tried various suggestions from forums but to no avail. Then it tripped out all the sockets in the house!! I give up. Maybe Rowenta is the way to go?

I have a Tefal Pro Express Steam Generator GV 8330 purchased in September 2008.
I have had problems with the steam not working and then all of a sudden it steams and wont stop spitting out all sorts!!!!.
This is the second unit I have had but cant cope without it even if they do seem to have a limited life span.
Can any one suggest anything please?

Hi Whats the problem? I have had 4 in six years and the same problem each time with it leaking out of the bottom and it splitting water out of the iron instead of steam.
The thing is the steam generators are so good I couldnt be without it.
This time I solved the problem just before I was about to put it in the bin.
I poured 3/4 of a bottle of Lime Lite descaler inside the bottom chamber ( book says dont use descaler) I then left it for about an hour with fizzing foam coming out of it, I then rinsed and rinsed it out over and over and over again.
IT WORKED perfect and still working brilliantly at the end of the day I had nothing to loose. I think as we are in a hard water area some lime scale must have blocked something inside even though I always rinsed it out after every 7-8 uses, I am so pleased with my self and saved me alot of money ( they only seem to last about 16 months )

Tefal are some what less robust than other makes such as Rowenta how ever this is reflected in the cost you pay.
The tefal steam generator we have is on it,s second lead base to iron due to a broken control wire for the steam valve.
We are going to invest in a Rowenta DG 9040 which has greater steam pressure 5.0 bar as against 2.5 for our Tefal.
It zips through ironing even quicker

You have not explained what the problem is. Most common is that the solenoid activating the steam valve fixed to the heater box has failed. When you press the trigger nothing happens. Leave it for around 45 to 60 mins and it should steam. I've had two fail in 3 years. Just fitted another and works again. Tefal must have had a faulty batch or something!
