Driver side window of my BMW 318iS E36 Coupe is not opening?

My 318iS Coupe driver side window is not opening, when the button is pressed to open the window there is no sound of any sort, it is completley quiet. The window opens manually and drops down slightly every time i go over a speed hump. Any info on what the cause may and how to mend it will be greatly appreciated.
