do new planks for a boat have to be killen dried?

kiln drying verses air drying hmmm well , kiln drying dries the wood out more , now you want the wood to swell to keep the water out . kiln dried planks will swell more when wet verses air dried . you can use both , but with the air dried you'd better have those planks real tight on the boat, or you'll have leaks i figure you can make the choice on this yourself , it all depends if you have the cash to buy the kiln dried , and how good a woodworker you are , figure long ago in the days of sailing ships , all the had was air dry but those hulls were thick and caulked
