I've had the same problem - man came out to repair it and now the paddle keeps on coming out - won't snap back in and when it does the machine rips my clothes!!

Hi Jane - I had this problem with a washing machine and found that there was a broken underwire sticking through one of the holes in the drum ..... got it out with some pliers and all was well, could this be your problem too?
