afaik you cant FIX a thermostat, just replace it. Its a simple mechanical device, mounted near or on the engine block where the coolant feeds in/out. Its fairly simple to replace, and fairly inexpensive. Cheapest i've seen was for a punto for £8 and the most expensive was about £50ish
