How to fix my whirpool washer to drain?

I discovered what the problem was with mine. The lid switch was busted; a poorly made plastic encased switch attached to the top panel.

I say poorly because this is the second major appliance I have had, that a small plastic piece broke and prevented the appliance from working.

The good thing is, I was able to patch this up temporarily enough to make it work - liquid nails and electrical tape work wonders, though it won't last long.

However I also discovered something else: it wasn't just broken along the seam, where the 2 plastic parts were connected and sealed, the two screw mounts had been broken previously, because they clearly have been glued back together. Problem is, this machine was purchased new from Best Buy 7 years ago and I have had no problems with it until now, so who did the repairs and when???!

This makes me very angry and bothered by companies that build poor quality appliances. "They just don't make them like they used to" is a gross understatement.

It seems like it could be anything from the timer/controls, a blown fuse preventing the pump from kicking on to drain the water, or simply the pump motor failed, etc.

Ordered the Whirlpool repair book for $20 on the internet, waiting to receive it and begin troubleshooting.
