How can i fix contacts that STOP working? ?

hi, i was wondering if theres a way to fix contacts that stop working on your msn messanger contact list. It's just the one contact which is not working who appears to be my bestfriend. i was just wondering if there is a way to fix this without deleting them...anyways i hope someone can help.
