Mend Oven Thermostat Failure

how to repalce thermostat?

I have just repalced my cooker oven element after it blew, upon replacement the cooker light stays on and the element just gets hotter and hotter. I am assuming that the original went bang becuase the thermostat failed? is this correct and how easy is the thermostsat to replace or can anybody point me to a suitable website to help
