Gilera Runner zx125
Starts ok and runs normal for about 2/3 miles then begins to missfire and stops altogether. Starting is difficult and works again for a while before playing up again. A good spark is observed, the fuel is ok and the air cleaner serviced.
any ideas appreciated

the actual fault was===the pipe was split from the vacuum fuel pump , thus fuel delivery could not keep up at speed.

sounds like a primary ignition coil seperating when it gets to a certain temp i have seeen this problem before on several scooters, replace it as its the only sure way it will spark still outside of the engine but will fail under pressure when fitted back into the head.

Thanks for that but this pm have found a hole in the small pipe which connects to the head near the exhast pipe, this pipe goes to a unit situated to the rear right side of the engine. God knows what this unit does but is it significant? The bike is a 125 4 stroke.

sounds like ignition coil faulty. it would spit and stop. if it was fuel starvation it would die out smoother. if its a high mileage 2 stroke then it's almost certainly worn rings/ cylinder bore. chainsaws do that when old.
