Nissan Micra repair of chassis rail under radiator?

What is the procedure for repairing or replacing the frontmost chassis rail on my 1995 Micra? This item has a lateral spar attached which looks fairly easy to remove, but I notice that the front engine mount also connects here, so I'd like to know a safe procedure before attempting in case of serious injury!
