How Can i Fix My Epson Perfection 1670?

When i Scan a Document or picture the scanner light comes on and does its pass back and forth, but no image comes up on the screen just a blank image page also the Marquee on the preview page is Fadded.

After a significant number of scans performed, I am now getting a groaning sound from my scanner, right before it performs the scanning operation.
Is there anything I can do to repair or correct the problem, before it gets worst and my machine fails altogether?
I would appreciate your assist the soonest possible.
