Is my ford radio cassette locked or bust?

Please help
Bought a car without the radio code, aquired the code but all i get when i turn the unit on is a blank screen
anyone with any ideas. I tried pressing button 1 but nothing comes up. The aerial raises when i switch on and checked the 12v supply and the switched 12v and both work. Any ideas? Locked or bust?
