Why does my hotpoint aquarius dishwasher salt indicator keep flashing?

You only need salt in a hard water area salt is a water softner. And you should not have to fill it all the time i am in Scotland and we only have to put it in to kill bacteria building up in the bottom of the D/W and it only needs it once a year. Most tablets have salt in them. ? are you putting it in the bottom of the D/W and are you useing dishwasher salt i have to say that becouse i fit them all the time and people ask if it is just table salt they have to use.
