Tyre pressure sensors, replacing wheels, what happens next?

I have a 51 plate Laguna with steel wheels, i wish to replace with the alloys that are fitted as standard "silverstone", I believe they are called.
If i fit these new wheels will I need to remove old valves from steel wheels to continue with the benefits of the sensors?
Any constructive help, greatly appreciated
