What is wrong with my Vauxhall Corsa GTI Y reg?

Occasionally, when I drive my Vauxhall Corsa GTI Y reg the dashboard panal appears to stop working. All the needles on the temp dial, accelaration dial, speed dial and fuel gauge all go back to 0, although I could be driving at 30mph. The lights (eg indicator) also go out on the display panal. However, the engine runs fine and I can stop and start and change gears OK. When this happens, the Handbreak symbol comes on although the handbreak itself is not on. Do you know what is wrong with my car?
