my ferguson 24" tv screems a high pitch noise?

the noise is deafening,and i can not have it on,i have seen on another site it could be a coil or a transformer,is this true? is it something i can fix myself,is it expensive,should i scrap the tv and buy a new one,any help much appreciated thanks trev.
