my temperature gauge keeps going into the red?

sorry forgot to say if cheaper option fails if the gauge goes straight to red when ignition is turned on then it is prob the gauge its self these are not as cheap as the early option before you buy one make sure you trace the wires to make sure that the wires are not damaged causing a short , hope its the first option .

faulty temp sender you will have 1 for electric cooling fan if fitted and one for temp gauge ,couple of quid self fix , dont be fooled in to paying megga bux.
