my phillips radio not working.think i need code.Vaxhuall corsa s1995 N reg ?

when i turn it on the light comes on around the button but i wont play my tapes or radio and it has no display screen so it don't tell me nothing. someone says i need a code or something. it is a Phillips cassette & radio player but it does not say what model it is so im clueless to that.
