15/04/09 - Yes, the plastic splits off the shaft after years of use though it is an fairly old model (ours was 1985!). A little used second hand machine I just bought for spares had the same problem so no joy there. The bowl shaft part is now listed as obolete but I found a number of suppliers that still have spares for later Kenwood models and were willing to check their stock and compare against a photo I sent them of the original. I have now ended up with Kenwood part no, 642420 from an unknown Kenwood model and fitted it after MODIFYING THE NEW SHAFT to suit: - Carefully comparing it with the original it was approx. 3mm too long to the pin hole: 1. to start I took off and retained the plastic pulley ring and also plastic shroud for re-use, and drove out the original roll pin against a vice with a suitable punch 2. reduced the plastic shoulder on the new part in a bench drill using a flat file by approx. 3mm, 3. ground about 3mm off the end of the metal shaft as it would otherwise touch the base, and 4. had to drill new larger /further in holes in the nylon pulley as the roll pin was larger and the end float still differed. Finally it fitted after carefully checking there is some end float play to allow rotation with all the washers in place. However this is a job for a competent person only...
